BELMAR – BEAUTY BY THE SEA
Thinking about a seaside wedding? Belmar means “beautiful sea” and this Jersey Shore borough lives up to its name. Founded in the 1800’s, Belmar is a popular seaside destination, drawing vacationers from New York City and Philadelphia.
Your guests will have plenty to do in Belmar. In addition to the pristine, smoke-free beaches and boardwalk, locals and tourists enjoy surfing, sport fishing, parasailing, and stand up paddleboarding. Belmar is one of the most popular surf spots on the East Coast. In September the town plays host to the Belmar Pro Surf Content.

You’ll find charter boats as well as rentals at The Belmar Marina. You can also sign up for parasailing at the marina or just enjoy a round of mini golf by the water. Paddleboard lessons take place at L Street Beach. And if your guests are looking for other recreation, they can take a stroll along the scenic Shark River at Maclearie Park. There are also tennis and pickleball courts, a playground, and shaded picnic areas with charcoal grills.
Art lovers enjoy the Belmar Arts Council’s gallery, The Boatworks, near the mouth of the Shark River. And during the summer, there are free concerts on Thursday and Friday evenings. In addition to the beaches and boardwalk, downtown Belmar offers a diverse collection of shops and restaurants. From the first of June through mid-September, the Farmers Market takes place on Wednesdays between 12th and 13th Aves. Locally sourced seasonal produce, to-go food, and handcrafted items are all available.
Belmar is also known for its connection to the Garden State’s native son, Bruce Springsteen. E Street is the original source of Springstreet’s “E Street Band.” Keyboardist David Sancious was a resident of the street when the band was formed and the family home was often used as a place to practice. Today you can take a selfie in front of a giant Bruce Springsteen guitar in front of the Belmar Public Library.
